Trevor's Portfolio

I chose the Portfolio option because of the potential to write a multitude of different stories with different characters each week. I hope you enjoy my stories!

The Root of All Evil

Above is a link to my first Portfolio story. This story specifically focuses on the short story of how Buddha became who he is known for today. I added a modern twist of a lawyer figuring out what he is actually doing with his life. I hope you enjoy my changes to the original story!

Above is a link to my second Portfolio story. This story involves the beginning of an epic long journey by the merchant and sailor Aarav Delfino. This story is filled with ship wrecks, giant creatures, and trickery! My story is loosely based off of the original story of Sinbad. Hope you enjoy!

A Dog's Immortality
Above is a link to my third story for my Portfolio. This story is a play off of the original story of The Monkey King. The original story focused on stone ape's struggle with becoming immortal. My story focuses on the modern world where a newly adopted dog wants a similar thing... To become a good boy.  Hope you enjoy!

  1. So I chose to read, "Root of All Evil" and I must say that it was a really great read! You delved into the mind of your character without having too much to say, yet not too little either. I really like that you took the original story and turned it into a modern story. I've read the original, so it makes sense as I saw that your story was about The Life of Buddha. Happiness is true enlightenment in my book. I can also agree that this world is tainted with what people think it 'needs' to be. Your description of his emotions and the paradise he entered felt like I was actually him and there myself!
It was a challenge trying to find what to suggest in terms of your work, other than reading it aloud to proofread and view tenses. Overall you did a great job!

  2. I read a Dog's immortality and the Tales of Aarav Delfino. I loves both so much as I am a dog lover as well as I read Sinbad. I really got the Marley and Me vibe from the Dog's immortality. It made me really sad but happy about how well the dog's guardians took care of sunny after he ate half the prime rib. If you wanted to expand the story you could add more things he did (if any). I really liked how you changed up the Sinbad story. I like the introduction but I feel like it needs to connect with the story again in the end. Other than that, great reads and I can't wait to read more!

  3. Trevor, what a great job on this story. I really like your portfolio as well and the variety it brings. I don’t know if this was your intention, but there is a huge theme of spirituality throughout your portfolio. I chose to read “The Root of all Evil” because I did a story on Buddha as well. Yours was so creative so it was nice seeing a different take on the story. I love the idea of a hard-working wealthy man leaving his successful life behind to find peace and happiness within himself. That is basically what Buddha did. He was the son of a king and became a hermit. I wish the ending hadn’t ended so quickly though. I really liked your inclusion of the root of all evil because that is a huge theme in the story following greed, money, and power. This was a very entertaining story.
