Famous Last Words: Cruising and Final Post

This is actually my last Famous Last words because this is my final post. I have finally reached 410 points!

In this course I actually really enjoyed reading the Myths and Legends of Sioux Indians. This is a culture that I feel I do not know a ton about so it was nice to finally get some tales from them. My favorite tall was of the Rabbit and the Bear. I felt that it had a great moral that some people missed in that sometimes it is not good to destroy something that so many people need. My favorite writing of this week had to be my story planning for next week. I feel that combining the stories form this week along with my reading notes from Beowulf will make for a very interesting story.

In my other courses, I have actually been doing pretty well. I just received one of my grades back for a very difficult exam. I actually did really well a received an A. I was so pumped that I treated myself with the best fast food out there: Taco Bell. My other courses have picked up too but since I am done with this course, I will have a lot more free time to study for those courses. I am just really excited to finally be graduating!

Outside of class has been great too. I had my interview before Spring Break and I felt that I did a great job on it. I should hear back soon so I am super anxious. Also, I was able to go on a trip with my friends over Spring Break. We ended up going on a 7 day cruise to Mexico, Belize, and Honduras. All were great places to visit and I highly recommend going. It was a blast but quite exhausting. Overall, it has been a great last few weeks!

Famous Last Words

In this Course
This week has actually been really good because I was able to finish most of it pretty early on. I had two favorite things this week in this course. First, I actually really liked reading Brer Rabbit. The unique style of writing really brought me into the culture of the Deep South Gullah. It was difficult at first, but I got the hang of it and enjoyed all of the morals of the stories. Second, I actually liked how my story turned out. I really planned hard for my writing the past week so it worked out quite nicely. I am looking forward to hearing some feedback so I can revise it a little bit! I am actually at 320 points right now in this course so I hope I can continue at this pace.

Other Course
My other courses have really picked up. This week I have a technical report due for my Capstone course. My group and I have been working on it pretty much all day every day since last Friday. It is worth 20% of our final grade so I hope we do well on it! I also have an exam next week in my Surface Production course. I did okay on my first exam so I hope I can keep it up for the next one. Also, I just finished my online government course so I am pretty stoked about that!

Outside of Class

I am actually pretty nervous because next week I will be flying to Houston for an interview. It is for a private midstream company so I am really excited and hopeful I can get it. I will definitely be studying and preparing for it all weekend. All I know is I cannot wait for March 12th when a bunch of my friends and I make our way to New Orleans in order to go on our 7 day cruise! It can’t come earlier!

Famous Last Words

This Course:
This week I really actually enjoyed the reading that I chose. I ended up reading about the Life of Buddha. I read both of the stories and loved how Buddha escaped riches in order to understand the importance of life. My favorite writing this week was my story. I ended up changing the original story to where it was modern instead of during an older period. In addition, I am looking forward to reading a story next week about Asian or African stories. I am planning on choosing to read the Monkey King and or one of the African Tales. I also really enjoyed reading the story written by Ellie Voss. She is aspiring to be an author so she really wrote a great story. Next week, I will try and write a story in the format of her story. I sometimes write to long of paragraphs so I will try and shorten them. My other courses have picked up and I took my first test this week. I thought I did well enough but there were a few questions I did not fully know. I hope to get my exam grade back soon! In addition, I feel that my government class is going by a lot easier because of this course. I am able to write better and easier due to the volume of writings in this course.

Outside of Class:
This past week I ended up going to Houston for an Oil & Gas conference this past week. It was a great way to network and I had a fun time looking at all of the potential prospects in the oil industry right now. I was also able to run by the office of the company I am interviewing with in March. Also, I was able to celebrate my birthday with my dad and brother-in-law at a nice steakhouse in Houston. It was delicious!

Famous Last Words

In this course I really enjoyed reading the Seven Voyages of Sinbad. I did not know what to expect but I am glad I chose reading this. This allowed me to write a story that I am not going to try and write my Storybook over. I felt my best writing was actually my story where I wrote about a man telling adventures of his epic long journeys across the seven seas. I am looking forward to reading other Middle Eastern/ Indian stories next week since I was enrolled in the Epics of India course last semester. In addition to this week’s reading, I finally decided to do extra reading and read Aesop’s Fables. I actually really enjoyed this short stories that all possessed moral themes that can be translated to everyday life.

In my other courses I have started to get really busy. I have my first exam coming up on Tuesday morning for my Surface Production course. I have been studying all weekend so I feel prepared. It should be a rather difficult exam so I am a little nervous. I hope to do well on it since I don’t actually have a lot of exams this senior semester (Wowhoo!). In addition to the exam, I am excited because on Thursday it is my 22nd birthday! I am not a huge celebrator of birthdays but still I am excited this year. I will actually being traveling to Houston though on Wednesday. It is for an Oil and Gas conference called NAPE. This will be a great opportunity to meet and network with industry professionals so I hope it goes well. I am also meeting up with one of my childhood best friends there so that will be great to catch up as well. I am excited to continue working ahead on this course and enjoying the upcoming readings.

Week 3: Famous Last Words

Anyway, it’s been a great week and looking forward to many more!

The end of Week 3 is finally here. I am excited to have completed 3 weeks of this semester already. This class was great this week even though I had to do majority of the class of Saturday. I enjoyed reading Homer’s Odyssey because it contained a lot of great characters. I am curious to read the full Odyssey though so I may try and do that on my extra credit reading either this week or next. I felt my story was okay this week. I think I should have split up the story into two weeks in order to write everything I wanted in this story. Oh well, maybe I can change it up if the Portfolio option is the direction I want to go. School is starting to pick up, specifically my Capstone course. I am now working on this course every day and it is extremely time consuming. I am enjoying it though because it involves somewhat real-world applications to what I have been learning the past few years.

In terms of outside of class, I am excited to say that I have an interview in March for a full-time position. Right now it is hard to find a job as a Petroleum Engineer, so I am extremely thankful for at least the chance to interview for a spot. Additionally, I am super (no pun intended) excited for the Super Bowl tomorrow. My friends and I are going to have a get together and watch the game. I could care less who wins so I am mainly going for the food and drinks! I do hope the Falcons win though.

Next week I am excited to switch from the classical/biblical stories to the Indian story. I was in the Epics of India course last year and I really enjoyed reading all of the interesting stories form this culture. I do not know exactly what I am reading though.

Week 2 Famous Last Words

This past week has been very good in terms of school and outside of school. In this course, I ended up reading Homer’s Illiad and I was not disappointed. I felt that the story was very well written and very entertaining. My favorite part of the story was the battle between Hector and Achilles, however, I wish Hector would have won the battle! This translated into my story where I thought I did a good job changing the story to what I thought would be a good story. The entire theme that I keep getting from these stories is that the Gods interactions with the mortals causes a lot of issues on Earth and on Mount Olympus. I am really looking forward to reading the other portion of Homer’s epic called Homer’s Odysseus. I feel that it will be similar writing and I am excited to read about the dangerous cyclops!

In my other courses, things have started to pick up quite a bit. My Capstone course involves having presentations every week so I am constantly working on the PowerPoints and work. In connection with this class, I have felt that my writing in my Government class has really improved. I am able to think more creatively in describing my opinions. I am looking forward to finishing that course early though so I can focus on my courses in Petroleum Engineering.

In regards to outside of the class, I am really excited because it is my nieces 1 year birthday this weekend so I am going home. We are having an awesome German dinner full of schnitzel, cabbage, and spatzle to celebrate her birthday. It will be good to see my family and celebrate my wonderful niece’s birthday! Also, I started a new Netflix show called Longmire. It is a great show that is filmed in the beautiful mountains of Wyoming. I definitely recommend it!

Next week I am looking forward to working on my project and story in this course. I really enjoy using my creativeness in order to develop stories. Thanks for reading!

Famous Last Words: First Week of School

First, my Winter Break was very fun and relaxing. I did not go on any vacations, however, I was able to spend a lot of time with my family and relax. New Year’s Eve was definitely the highlight of my break though because I was able to hang out with a lot of my old high school friends and catch up. Once school started, I was able to get into the swing of things with going from total relaxation to working again. First off, this weekend I was able to watch the divisional NFL football games with all of my friends. The games were very good, however, my girlfriend and friends were pretty disappointed that the Dallas Cowboys did not win the game. Once school started, I was able to get in the groove of things. I have a relatively easy load this semester. I am taking my Capstone course, Surface Production II, Oil & Gas Law, Federal Government, and finally Myth Folklore. I am most looking forward to Capstone because I feel that it will really test my understanding of the material I have learned that last few years. I know that it will be a lot of work but I am also excited to get to work with my friends. In addition to school, I have finally stared It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. My friends have always told me to watch it and I finally started. This show is extremely funny and I am definitely addicted to it so far! My favorite character is definitely Charlie because he is so strange and weird.

As for next week, I am looking forward to reading Homer’s Illiad and Odyssey. After reading about the Trojan War in the Wikipedia Trail, it seems that the story is extremely interesting and entertaining. Also, I am excited to start my storybook or portfolio. Overall, it was a great week and I am excited to get this semester started again.
